Dependent Prepositions

Verb + Preposition S + V + prep. + noun/V-ing She listens to music every day.
Adjective + Preposition S + be + adj. + prep. + noun/V-ing I am good at cooking.
Noun + Preposition noun + prep. + noun There is a reason for his absence.

กฎสำคัญ: ถ้าหลังคำบุพบทตามด้วยคำกริยา ต้องเป็นรูป V-ing เสมอ ไม่ใช่ infinitive
- ถูก: I'm interested in learning Japanese.
- ผิด: I'm interested in learn Japanese.

ข้อผิดพลาดที่คนไทยชอบทำบ่อยที่สุด

  1. ละคำบุพบทไปเลย เพราะภาษาไทยไม่มีคำเชื่อมแบบนี้
  2. ผิด: I'm interested music.
  3. ถูก: I'm interested in music.

  4. ใช้ "at" หรือ "in" แทนทุกอย่างเพราะติดวิธีคิดแบบไทยที่ใช้ "ที่/ใน" ครอบจักรวาล

  5. ผิด: good in speaking / interested at history
  6. ถูก: good at speaking / interested in history

  7. สับสนระหว่าง angry with กับ angry about — angry with ใช้กับคน ส่วน angry about ใช้กับเรื่องราว/สถานการณ์

  8. I'm angry with my brother. (โกรธพี่ชาย)
  9. I'm angry about the delay. (โกรธเรื่องความล่าช้า)

  10. แปลตรงตัวจากไทยแล้วเลือกบุพบทผิด เช่น "แต่งงานกับ" แปลตรงตัวเป็น married with แต่ที่ถูกต้องคือ married to

  11. ใช้ infinitive แทน V-ing หลังบุพบท เพราะสับสนกับโครงสร้าง verb + to + infinitive

  12. ผิด: She's good at play the piano.
  13. ถูก: She's good at playing the piano.

  14. สับสน different from / different to / different than — ในภาษาอังกฤษแบบอเมริกันและอังกฤษใช้ต่างกันเล็กน้อย แต่ different from ปลอดภัยที่สุดและใช้ได้ทั้งสองแบบ

A: ไม่มีกฎตายตัว 100% ต้องจำเป็นคู่ (fixed pair) แต่มีแนวโน้มบางอย่าง เช่น บุพบท "at" มักตามหลังคำที่แสดงทักษะ (good at, bad at, skilled at) การจำเป็นกลุ่มความหมายจะช่วยได้มาก

Q: ต่างจาก Advanced Dependent Prepositions อย่างไร?
A: หัวข้อนี้เน้นคำที่ใช้บ่อยในชีวิตประจำวันระดับพื้นฐาน-กลาง เช่น interested in, good at, depend on ส่วนระดับขั้นสูงจะเป็นคำศัพท์ทางการที่พบในบทความวิชาการ เช่น susceptible to, comply with

Q: หลังบุพบทใช้ infinitive ได้หรือไม่?
A: ไม่ได้ หลังบุพบทต้องตามด้วยคำนามหรือ V-ing (gerund) เท่านั้น เช่น good at swimming ไม่ใช่ good at swim หรือ good at to swim

Q: จะรู้ได้อย่างไรว่าต้องใช้ with หรือ about?
A: โดยทั่วไป "with" ใช้กับบุคคล (angry with him) ส่วน "about" ใช้กับเรื่องราวหรือสถานการณ์ (angry about the situation) เป็นหลักการที่ช่วยแยกได้ในหลายกรณี แต่ควรตรวจสอบพจนานุกรมเมื่อไม่แน่ใจ
